Artist Statement:

All artworks can be divided into three groups: a platform for issues that any human being can connect to, a window to the artist’s personal experiences, or an artwork that is only for the eye to appreciate. Although all my creations can be applied to all three areas, I tend to focus more on artworks connecting to my own personal experiences. By showing the pain and moments of trauma through my art, I can remind myself and the audience that certain painful experiences have to be lived through to gain a better stance in life. Throughout my artworks, I focus on the concepts of mortality in the human experience and in relation to the human body. My works draw inspiration from concepts of human life such as power, sexuality and boundaries, trauma and submission, gender and sexuality, and ultimately death. Each work visualizes concepts coming in pairs and explores opposing or complementary concepts. This is to show the duality of the concepts when they are present in human life; each concept never comes alone in life but is accompanied by more than one.
I am interested in combining a surrealistic art style that embodies what the space of limbo would be in the mind combined with the complex, dark and gory concepts of human life and body in my artworks. The human body is my main subject in my artworks as the beauty of the body is never fully captured no matter the amount of times painted. I enjoy using the body as a model due to the varied range of emotions it can portray with its harsh and soft features. Even though each piece is created with a determined concept, the message is never definite and could change depending on who’s narrating it. This makes my work relatable so the viewer can connect to it in their own personal way. I focus on exploring the emotions of despair from being stuck in a limbo state without having any outlets for it.
My works are heavily inspired by my own past personal experiences that are therefore being viewed from an outside lens through my art. Most of these encounters have been locked away and never discussed, however, by using them in my art I’m letting them out so they won’t be avoided. My work is an outlet for me to display my rage in a physical method, and therefore makes my art a product of rage. However, the works can instead be seen by the viewers as a method to prevent their own personal rage; since they do not partake in the creation process, it is not an outlet of their rage but rather a way for them to process their own emotions before it could turn into rage.
Some of the artists that have inspired me on my path are Roberto Ferri, Colleen Barry, Tanya Gomelskaya and Denis Sarazhin.
